Can Ultrasound Be Used As A Male Contraceptive

Scientists at the University of North Carolina are conducting tests on ultrasound to be used as a reversible male contraceptive. They believe that a blast of ultrasound to the testes can safely stop sperm production for six months; once the testes stops producing sperm and all the sperm reserves have been depleted, the man will be temporarily infertile. The team has received a $100,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to conduct more clinical trials and hopes that eventually ultrasound would provide a low cost and reliable birth control option to couples.
